The word "Haji" is given to those Muslims that have made the pilgrimage to Mecca. All Muslims are supposed to try to make this pilgrimage at least once in their life. Probably, a majority do not make it. Haji is a title added to a Muslim's name, and is considered to be a complement. There are several ways to spell this term with the Roman alphabet.
Another title is "Hafiz", given to someone who has memorized the Koran. Assad's father had this title.
US troops were told to address Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere using the term Haj.
A majority of the people of India are Hindus, not Muslims. There are many other religions in India besides Hinduism and Islam
